12 weeks of age.

April 14, 2008: Ramona! Just wanted to let you know that Sky and I certified last Friday to Oregon State Sheriff's Association Standards for Wilderness Trailing. We were tested on a 1 1/2 mile track that was 18 hrs old.  He did the trail off lead, and showed me precise foot prints on most of the trail. Thanks again for your part in making it possible for me to work with Sky.  He is a great dog. Glenn

8-18-06; Hi guys, Just wanted to send along a pic of Sky working a 200 foot trail with 2 corners and a cross trail.  He did great.  I had to stop him once where the trail entered some tall weeds, he diverted a couple of feet. But did not pay any attention to the cross trail.  Made both 90 degree corner with out a hitch.  He loves to trail and is working totally for his toy on trails. Glenn.

8-16-06; Ramona! Were doing great. Sky is running Scent discriminating trails every other day now and working cadaver on the alternate days.  He went along on a cadaver search today to follow along and was very mature. He is a pleasure to work with.  Acts very grown up. Not hardly any goofy puppy stuff.  Is getting very reliable on recall. Stays with me like glue out in the brush. Glenn
8-2-06;
Hey!  This is a picture from our second session with cadaver scent at the scent board at age 10 1/2 weeks.  I think part of the reason we are getting such a good indication is the height of the source, and the fact that we have been working on the sit command.  So far he has sat every time and has correctly located 10 of 10 source placements  with a little encouragement needed twice.  His trails are better without any food in the trail. He takes the scent article very well.  Still swings between toy and food for reward. Glenn

Showing indication at the scent board 10 1/2 weeks.

ODIN of Sapphire Mountain: male

Date of Birth:  July 24, 2005
Classification: Trained Personal Protection dog.
Owner: Mr. & Mrs. Steven Barat. New Jersey.

The following emails are yet another testimony of the many we have received, from outside trainers, evaluators and owners stating the ROCKY/PETRA breeding is truly Police Dog Breeding:

Hi Ramona, Just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know that Odin is doing really well in his pp training. Attached is a picture from this evening (nice action shot) during his first real civil agitation session. This is our second session following the evaluation. The trainer described Odin as a police dog, not a sport dog, as the threat to him is real, and also that he will easily be trained to re-direct, not just to grip and hold. I'll be sure to get more photos as we progress, but this one came out particularly well. I'm really psyched about this training. Talk to you soon. Steve

H
i Ramona, I just had to drop you a note this evening, as tonight was Odin's first time on a sleeve. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of it (as I was there alone with the trainer), but will get pictures in the near future. Odin is really coming out very strong - amazing being worked like this and backing off on the obedience. I honestly was wondering if he would be able to come out at first. Tonight he was absolutely amazing. He is getting the meaning of "watch him" and activates with a really deep, repetitive bark focused on the the decoy. The trainer is primarily activating Odin in defense (through psychological threats) as he says Odin has lots of defensive aggression. Tonight, the trainer activated Odin with this approach, but then added more body movement and animation on top of it and Odin really lit up. His lunges on the leash rivaled the rottweiler we are working with in force (and the rott weighs 20 lbs more) that is how intense he was. I was surprised to see the trainer went right to the sleeve tonight as Odin only did very brief rag work last time. Anyhow, first time with the sleeve and he hit it like a freight train with a nice high strike and full mouth. The first time, the bite itself was pretty good, according to the trainer. The second bite tonight was different. The trainer described that second bite coming with complete attitude and determination. Odin was really fired up and nailed the sleeve and after a brief struggle (like a little whip of the neck) he got the sleeve and I ran him in circles twice, then about 500 feet back to the car and was told to slowly pet him - so I did and he still had the sleeve in his mouth and the trainer came over, said not to take it from him, let him give it up when he wants to. So...I stood their petting Odin slowly while he was standing with the sleeve, then Odin decided to sit - with the sleeve of course - and then FINALLY dropped it. No kidding, he held on to that damn sleeve very calmly for almost 10 minutes and I am not making that up or exaggerating about that. The trainer told me he really like what he saw, that Odin activates with defense aggression and then he can get his prey out of him - as Odin is all about aggression and the prey he has is an off shoot of that aggression, but when he learned to take the bite and get the sleeve, he was very calm and stayed calm. Says Odin will make a very good protection dog based on his character. I am so happy the way things are going and it is also so early too in the training. It's clear he is made for this stuff. Anyway, I just felt really compelled to share this experience with you - it was a great night! Thanks for a great dog - you should know that everything that you said he would be, he is truly turning out to be just that. Talk to you soon. Steve

Hi Ramona, Well not to worry, I'm not going to update you after every training session we have, but felt compelled to tell you about last night. Recall that I told you about the previous session where Odin had his first time on a sleeve and held the sleeve calmly for 10 minutes after we ran him off the field. Last night we did something a little different - Odin got his bite and I ran him in circles twice. The trainer then asked me to bring Odin with the sleeve towards him, so we did and then stopped about 20-30 feet in front of the trainer. Odin held the sleeve calmly and I petted him. The trainer approached Odin slowly and at about 10 feet, Odin dropped the sleeve and stared right at the trainer. Trainer's response was that "he is no dummy". Based on that reaction, we kicked the sleeve away from our area and I then was on the field with Odin and we repeated the exercise that we just did, but with no equipment to see Odin's reaction to this civil agitation. The reaction was no different at all - he would have no issue biting without equipment. The trainer really liked what he saw and said that Odin would make a "great police dog, excellent, excellent patrol dog", as many dogs for law enforcement training aren't as civil as Odin - they are more fixed on the object rather than the threat (which to me is speaking of too much prey, too little defense in those other dogs). Odin has no issue with any of this - and this was his first session under those agitation circumstances. I think that all says allot - needless to say, I am thrilled. Talk to you soon - with pictures to follow.  Steve

Parents: Rocky Venusina Sopka x Black Pearl of Sapphire Mountain
Date of Birth:  June 15, 2004
Classification:  Trained personal protection dog.
Owner: Mr. Raymond Hockert, CT

Hello Ramona, I cant believe you just E-mailed me. Last night I was jotting down a few  thoughts to write to you. Goldie is doing excellent, she is everything I could have wanted in a pup. Her temperament and personality are wonderful, everyone she meets loves her. We finished basic obedience classes in December and will shortly begin advanced training. Goldie is a very athletic pup she loves playing fetch, agility, and playing in the water. You described Goldie as stunning and she absolutely is. The picture I'm sending was taken on December 15 (her six month birthday) and weighed 62 pounds.

R
amona, I wanted to share a few photos of Goldie, and inform you what a terrific German Shepherd dog she has become .Goldie excels in everything she participates in. Her on/off leash obedience training went great and performs all commands very well. She continues to participates in agility and socialization classes and will begin personal protection training in early spring. She is a very social dog that loves people and other dogs. Goldie is a fun dog to train and play with. She is an excellent retriever and always has a ball in her mouth ready to play. I still call Goldie a "pup", but she really has matured into an amazing dog. Thank you, Ray

MARGAUX of Sapphire Mountain: female
Parents: Rocky Venusina Sopka x Black Pearl of Sapphire Mountain
Date of Birth:  June 15, 2004
Classification:  Family dog.
Owner:  Kellina Ceola, MO

Yes, perfect.  Took her to our vet today and you got the highest compliment.  He was very impressed.  We are too. Max, our husky, loves her.  She, of course, has already stood her ground with him and won. They play good together. I am very pleased on how the transition has been.  She seems to be potty trained as well?  She cries when she needs to use the bathroom so we take her out.  I am surprised about that.  Thank you again.  I will keep you posted on her. By the way, how much does her mother and father weigh?  If it was in the paperwork than I am sorry.  My husband took it to work today.  I am just curious on how big she will get.

T
he puppy (Margaux) is doing wonderful.  My husband and I are so pleased with her.  She is so calm. Max, the husky, adores her.  I take her to obedience class every Tuesday. She gets one on one with the instructor and she has also paid you and Margaux multiple compliments.  Thank you again for our Margaux.  I will forward you a new picture soon.

W
e have enjoyed Margaux very much.  We have a creek on our land that we take the two dogs to, and Margaux just loves the water!  She is finally the alpha male...ha.  She has made herself the queen bee already. Which that is what we wanted.  I had her going to obedience school since I adopted her and she did so well that the teacher dismissed her for a while.  Good news to us. We will start her training back up soon. Kellina Ceola
